For my first tech tutorial I decided to discover how to make a screen recording on my computer using the Chrome extension Screencastify. I did so because it will come in handy when we have to do our final group project. If each of my team members learns how to screen cast using this application, then I can go in and stitch all of our media together using iMovie afterwards.
It feels good to be a little more technologically literate and learn a new means of screen sharing other than Apple’s screen-shotting/recording processes which are device dependent.
I think this application could serve teachers in that making a screen recording can be used to explain instructions step-by-step. A teacher could have an assignment criteria sheet up on screen and record themselves explaining important points. We all know that students ask a million questions after having been explained something before… therefore, to cut down on class time spent answering the same questions, a teacher could make use of Screencastify. Obviously, teachers could also use screen sharing to demonstrate how to use different resources that they have recommended to their students, like DeepL Translate which I show in this video. This would help students overcome technological hurdles to better focus on their work/assignments.
10/10 would recommend this application. It’s so easy to use even a technophobe could do it!
