My final tech tutorial was done to reintroduce me to video editing with iMovie to better assist my group during our final project. However, this tech tutorial would turn out to be way more challenging than the final project itself, nevertheless I was eager to push forward.

The video I made as part of this tutorial documents a really special event, a reunion of exchange students from all over Canada who met while living abroad. It has been nearly a year since I promised our group that I would make a compilation of the clips from our rendez-vous, so this tech tutorial served as the perfect opportunity for me to get to work on it.

Over the course of the editing process, I furthered my knowledge of how to import sounds and overlay external audio over video clips to serve as non-diegetic sound. I practiced fading in and out audio to make transitions between songs smoother. The songs I used in my video were obtained thanks to the YouTube to MP3 Converter website : https://ytmp3.la/en-UNh4/ and the songs’ credits appear in the description of my YouTube video.

When it comes to the visual elements, I toggled with some obvious functions such as clip splitting and trimming, and speed modification. Additionally, I used for the first time a stock clip included in the iMovie application, you can see it appear at the 20 second mark. This was cool because it could be personalized to meet individual needs (in this case reflect the route of my specific trip). Moreover, I utilized a title screen and credits reel also included in the application. Both of which were also editable and easy to use.

Finally, I was reminded why I loved editing with iMovie so much back in grade school, because of how easy it is to export and share your project! I simply uploaded it to YouTube using my favourite method: the unlisted link. Unlisted videos are nice because only people with the URL can see them… so here it is!
